“Watch the waves in the ocean. The higher the wave goes, the deeper is the wake that follows it. One moment you are the wave, another moment you are the hollow wake that follows. Enjoy both- Don’t get addicted to one. Don’t say: I would always like to be on the peak. It is not possible. Simply see the fact: it is not possible. It has never happened and it will never happen. It is simply impossible–not in the nature of things.
Then what to do? Enjoy the peak while it lasts and then enjoy the valley when it comes.
What is wrong with the valley? What is wrong with being low? It is a relaxation. A peak is an excitement, and nobody can exist continuously in an excitement.”
-Osho
I really really like this quote. It is such a great reminder to me of acceptance.
The journey of life is filled with ups and downs, mountains and valleys.
When things are going our way and life is unfolding as we wish, we feel happy. We reach a goal and we feel high. Things are going great and we feel on top of the world.
But then…. nature is continuously seeking balance. So our high will at some point drop. And we may feel low. One minute we are so happy then later we are feeling sad. This is the nature of life. For some reason we don’t judge ourselves as much at the peak. But in the wake, in the low, we say why do I feel this way? Why don’t I feel happy. I’m not supposed to be feeling this way, I don’t want to feel this way, etc… However, all of the experiences are valuable- the joy, the pain and everything in between.
There will always be ups and downs and joys and sorrows.
When we are conscious of this, we can watch the ride as its happening and say to ourselves ok- right now I am feeling happy. Let me be grateful for these moments because they are bound to shift at some point. Then we have the awareness to say ok I am feeling low, I am going through a very tough time and I am in a lot of pain but at some point that is bound to shift again and I will ride the wave up higher again.
When we recognize the patterns of life and nature then we can learn to navigate through the waves without letting them completely wash us over. I’m not talking about suppressing your feelings or pretending that everything feels OK all of the time. Certainly feel your feelings and be present and honest with your self in each moment. It’s just that we can look on as a witness and know that this too shall soon pass.
When we practice yoga and meditation, that helps us to re-center and reconnect with our inner essence. When we remember our connection to the oneness of life we can navigate through the waves of life with a greater sense of acceptance, trust, peace and love.
-and hopefully enjoy the ride 😉
Much love and gratitude,
